Ensuring the success of your project

I recently had the opportunity to attend a Best Business Practices (www.thebpn.org) meeting in San Antonio. Having one on one meetings with the nation’s top designers twice a year has proven invaluable to me and Norman Design Group. Leaving each conference with incredible new professional business practices that are implemented throughout the year that enable us to deliver the management skills our clients demand. Talent is often seen early in a designer relationship, but what reveals itself slowly are the professional skills that assist in the management of more complicated projects.

Our members have been featured in every magazine publication from the New York Times to Architectural Digest.  BPN designers give the best of both worlds-fabulous talent and professional business skills.   I find my client base seeks organization, design talent, people skills, and project management as top priorities when interviewing our interior design firm and these are the skill sets that we focus on as a group.  I was able to sit down and have great conversations one night with a table of designers representing Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Francisco and Houston.  The areas we focused on were:

1. Centering on the highest ethical standards.

2. Frequent and direction communication.

3. Project management/Constuction management

4. Product tracking and resourcing.

dd-building-13These keep you-the design client – informed about timelines and budgets. The BPN is an elite and exclusive membership organization and I am happy to say we are involved in.

Unlike most design firms, we understand the complex nature of Interior Design. Having to manage multiple clients, scores of product providers and team members( like architects, builders and installers) requires sophisticated business systems and management skills. A custom home I designed for a Palos Verdes Interior Design client, involved many of these assets. Although you see the fabulous outcome in the pictures, the journey to get there involved many of the business and management skills we have implemented at NDG.rooselvelt5

These conferences leave me concluding 2 things- I have way more information than I can implement this next 6 months and I have the skill set to confidently ensure your project’s success!

The next meeting is in New York City at the Roosevelt Hotel I will be resourcing at the D and D building  and taking in all the fabulous design the city offers. I am putting together a shopping list for that trip—-anything you MUST have???
