Hancock Park Interior Design Direction

When resourcing for projects I like to design an unexpected piece or antique into an interior as it brings in character and charm to the home and the experiences while in that room.   Here are a few pieces that caught my attention while looking through an architectural salvage showroom.  They all have interesting stories where they came from and also what part of the country or world they originally where in.   I guess technically we can call this Green Design since it is adaptive reuse, right??

This is a great 1930’s Tudor fireplace that comes complete with its limestone interior surround.  It would make fire a great Family Room or Den centerpiece.  My craftspeople could easily fabricate flanking bookcases or even panel the room to complement this beauty.  A great place for salvaging Interior Architectural artifacts would be at La Hardware. This is a great place for a Interior Design project in Hancock Park.

Sometimes the sheen gets a little glossy for me.  I knock down the finish with steel wool and this usually does the trick.  We don’t find detail like this in new wood fireplaces .

Another cool fireplace only this one is from hand carved limestone.  Where was this one 6 months ago ?   I needed it then , oh well , I am sure this one will find a great home.

The next picture shows some great detailing- and remember this is all hand carved limestone.

Ok, I know,  a bit weird right?  Where would you use this?  I like the idea of using it for a Pantry door as it plays off the walk in refrigerator door.  Come on get out of your comfort zone….

Now to the Jewelry department—I am a sucker for that mismatched box of door handles.  But they are just so cool and my mind always goes to all the stories and memories these could tell us over their life span.  I can hear them saying – pick me, pick me!

I suggest using these on special doors like a powder room or library.  Just ask the showroom manger and I find they can normally get you the full working passage hardware.  I also think a really cool pair of handles on the paneled refrigerator is a charming and conversational detail.

If you do go salvaging, look around for those hidden gems and think outside the box.  Rarely do I use it for its original purpose.

Please let me know how you have used interesting elements in your home.
