Palos Verdes Estates Interior Design- Fireplace re-design

img_03154I was asked to remodel this fireplace and empty niches in just 6 weeks.  So my challenge was set and I had to find vendors and things in stock if that was possible.  Interview went something like this….

”Phil, really like what you do but we are having a fundraiser in 6 weeks for 200 people. I can’t possibly havethese empty niches when we have the party.  You can get this all designed and installed right?????”

Of course I said, GULP, sure………

So the plan is find a premade hand carved fireplace from limestone that fits the firebox.  It exists right?   Well it does and I got the last one available from Texas in a French Lueders Limestone.  But guess what ???  Always uncrate your fireplaces because I left this one sit on the job site 3 weeks and my mason opened it up and it had a hairline (think big hair) fracture running through only one component.  So I had to have the one piece hand carved and shipped from Texas ASAP.  It did work, and thank God it was in the same tones as the original limestone.

The bookcases are done in a more European Feel as the house was designed by Tony Ashai http://tonyashai.com/ and it just felt like this was the direction to go.  So many bookcases are designed and installed, and just look so boring.  That is why I did a more decorative door below and insisted that I accessorize it afterwards.  The other elements that were added was inset tile work that were little medallions and family crests on the tiles adding to the European touch.  The sconces add a nice warm feeling on the hand finshed and hand carved bookcases.

Stressful?   Yes!     Successful?   Yes!      Clients very happy and raised lots of money!

After this they asked to do the Dining Room which will be in a future blog before and after !
